U20 Team Kazakhstan enjoyed a blowout win over U20 Team France in the last game of U20 IIHF World Juniors Div I, finishing on top of Group A. With 13 points Team Kazakhstan returns to elite division after nine years and will compete at the World Juniors next year in Canada.
Most players of Team Kazakhstan represent Junior Hockey League teams Snezhnye Barsy Astana and Altay Ust-Kamenogorsk.
Snezhnye Barsy’s player Artur Gatiyatov was the top-scorer of the tournament as he got 4 goals and 3 assists for a total of 7 points. It was no other but Gatiyatov who played the key role in the game against Team Latvia, which proved to be pivotal in the race for elite division. Gatiyatov scored the shootout winner in the game and Kazakhstan won 3-2.
Sayan Daniyar, Alexander Melikhov (both – Snezhnye Barsy), Adil Beketayev, Musa Guseinov and Nikita Nazarenko (all – Altay) got goals in the game against Team France. U20 Team Kazakhstan is coached by Sergei Starygin, who is at the helm of Snezhnye Barsy.
