Mikhailov Academy Tula played their inaugural Junior Hockey League game on home ice. The newcomers faced HK Riga in their season-opener. Home team spent more time in the offensive zone in the opening period of play but couldn’t get anything on the board. Second frame proved to be hard-fought but also scoreless. Riga even it up on the shotclock, while Mikhailov Academy failed to convert on a 2-man advantage.

The visitors sat back for a long time and finally got what they were looking for. Eight minutes into the third stanza Robert Vorona sent it past Alexander Yevdokimov to put Latvian side in front. Five minutes later Rudolfs Polcs added a security marker to that and thus set the final score. Eriks Vitols stopped all 32 shots he had to face in this one and Riga handed Mikhailov Academy a 2-0 loss.
