5th and 7th place games will be disputed at the 2019 Sirius Junior Club World Cup on August 29th. Teams, who failed to qualify for semifinals, will go up against each other.
Ocelari Trinec vs. Davos
Czech Republic team lost almost every hope of making it to medal round after losing two first games in round robin and yet managed to finish round robin on the bright note as the ‘steelers’ defeated Team NAHL, who needed a win to get to the semis. American team seemed to have a good shot in the game against Ocelari, who have surprised many by putting up a good fight in the game against Kärpät Oulu – one of the favorites of the tournament.
HC Davos got a point in the game against MODO but then lost two consecutive games in regulation and lost hope of making it to the semifinal. The bigger problem for Michel Riesen’s team is the fact that they have only scored one goal at the tournament and have been shutout in their past two outings. Davos have just one game to fix the sad statistics.
MODO vs. Team NAHL
Swedish MODO created troubles for themselves in round robin as they edged Davos only in the shootout. With games against Loko Yaroslavl and Team AJHL ahead of them, MODO really should have though twice before losing points in their first outing. However, the Swedes still fell to both Canada and Russia. Nevertheless, they have a chance to dispute the 5th place with Team NAHL.
Team NAHL began the tournament with a blowout loss to Kärpät but then managed to edge Red Bull by a narrow margin. It all boiled down to the final game against Ocelari Trinec. Americans had two of their goals disallowed and then Ocelari scored three in a row. Team NAHL managed to get back to within one but it was too little and too late. With a 3-2 win, Trinec sent Red Bull to the semis to face Loko.
