At the end of every month Junior Hockey League selected top players in every position in each conference. The process carried on through the Kharlamov Cup Playoffs as well, as we selected top three players after every round. It’s time to summarize. We present to you the 2018-19 JHL All-Star team. We have taken into consideration regular season and playoff performances, productivity and plus/minus. Players who have been named top in their position throughout the year have also made the team. We’re taking a look at the first 5-man unit in the second edition of the series.

Nikita Rozhkov

Top rookie of the 9^th Junior Hockey League season really blossomed in the past year as he led Stlanye Lisy Magnitogorsk in goals and points. In 57 regular season games Rozhkov scored 63 points, which is a great result. Rozhkov was also named forward of the month in the Eastern Conference twice – in November and December. ‘Steel Foxes’ didn’t make it past the opening round of the playoffs. Nevertheless, Rozhkov picked up two assists in the series against Omskie Yastreby.

Vladislav Fyodorov

Almaz Cherepovets had Rozhkov of their own. Vladislav Fyodorov enjoyed his first full Junior Hockey League season and truly turned a few heads. He was named top player of the month twice as he scored 55 points in 57 games. Fyodorov also won the 2019 JHL Challenge Cup in Nizhnekamsk as a member of Team West. His feats didn’t go unnoticed by the KHL team and Fyodorov made his debut for Severstal as well.

Mikhail Shalagin

This JHC Spartak Moscow forward enjoyed a stellar season. He need just 43 games to score 48 goals and thus set a new Junior Hockey League record in single regular season tallies. Just as the aforementioned Rozhkov and Fyodorov, Shalagin was named top forward of the month twice, which was followed by being selected as the Most Valuable Player of the regular season. After the season Shalagin announced that he is determined to become a regular on Oleg Znarok’s team in the KHL next year.

Gleb Babintsev

Unlike in the offensive line, which consists mainly from Western Conference players, there is an ‘Easterner’ on the first defensive pairing. Gleb Babintsev is in Metallurg Magnitogorsk system. He played in the Ontario Hockey League in Canada two years ago and became one of the top players on Stalnye Lisy upon his return. Babintsev played 60 games in the regular season, finishing it as a plus-36 in plus/minus category. He also scored three goals and picked 21 assists for a total of 24 points.

Alexander Nikishin

This young defenseman made his Junior Hockey League debut when he was just 16 but it didn’t prevent him from becoming one of the leaders on Krylia Sovetov Moscow. He played 62 games for Setun in the regular season, scoring 25 points. Nikishin was named the top defenseman of October in the Western Conference, which was soon followed by an invitation to the 2019 JHL Challenge Cup in Nizhnekamsk, winning his first trophy in junior hockey.
