Junior Hockey League media relations department continues the series of jubilee season reviews for all teams. Taifun Primorie Region once again failed to beat their debut season record and had a regular season to forget. However, there were several positives for Russian Far East team this year as well.

15th place in the Western Conference, 44 points in 64 games. 153 goals for, 239 goals against

Primorie Region’s inaugural season remains the most successful in team history – back then Taifun finished 12th. Despite the stagnation from the standings point of view, the team still can pose a lot of trouble Junior Hockey League top clubs. Vladivostok team struggled to get points but their fans still have a few bright moments to reflect on. For instance, home win over Almaz Cherepovets, shootouts with HC Kapitan Stupino and JHC Spartak Moscow, hard-fought overtime victory over JHC Dynamo St. Petersburg and three wins over Chayka Nizhny Novgorod. Head-coach Sergei Slugin was succeeded by Igor Gavrilov and Taifun looked a better team towards the end of the season. Unfortunately for their fans, that wasn’t enough to make the playoffs.

Primorie Region shuffled their goaltending a lot this season. Vladislav Bulygin, who was Taifun’s starting netminder a year ago, played just 16 games this time around. Aside from him, Taifun had six other goaltenders, of which Vladislav Glazatov played the most games – 28. Gleb Maltsev, who joined the team from Tolpar Ufa mid-season, became Taifun’s top defenseman, notching 15 assists. Yuri Zholobov, who has played for as many as five teams in his Junior Hockey League career, led the offense. Zholobov represented Primorie Region at JHL Challenge Cup and won the trophy. Former Loko Yaroslavl forward Alexei Drobin and Nikita Ivashkin, who enjoyed his career-season, also were noticeable up front.
