The teams will be coached by bosses of two top teams in JHL two months into the 2018-19 season. Their teams are placed on top of their respective conferences.

Team East will be lead by Alik Gareyev, who is the head-coach of Tolpar Ufa this season – a team that currently tops the Eastern Conference. Western Conference team will have SKA-1946 St. Petersburg head-coach Alexander Savchenkov at the helm. St. Petersburg team leads the Western Conference table. SKA-1946 will delegate their head-coach to JHL Challenge Cup for the second consecutive time as last year they were represented by Mikhail Milyokhin.

The coaches were also given the opportunity to choose their own assistants from the top 8 teams on November 6th. Thus, Alik Gareyev will be helped by Reaktor Nizhnekamsk head-coach Vyacheslav Kasatkin. Alexander Savchenkov picked Krylia Sovetov Moscow head-coach Andrei Potaichuk.

Nizhnekamsk will host JHL Challenge Cup for the second time and it will be a part of All-Star Week festivities, which will take place in the Republic of Tatarstan, for the third time. Just like a year ago, top four players of the JHL Challenge Cup will be presented with an opportunity to compete in KHL All-Star Game.

Team East has dominated JHL Challenge Cup historically as they won it seven times in nine years.
