About the League
Junior Hockey League continues its series of remembering the most vivid moments of the past season. Let’s go back to the last month of 2017. Several memorable events took place in the regular season early in December. Some of them transpired on December 4th.
Stalnye Lisy played hosts to Sarmaty Orenburg in Magnitogorsk. Without a doubt that regular season game meant a little extra for Magnitogorsk head-coach Dmitry Stulov. It was none other but him who was at Sarmaty’s helm in their first two seasons in the league and built a foundation for that junior team in Orenburg.
This time Stalnye Lisy didn’t have much trouble. Former Orenburg head-coach did not go easy on Sarmaty. Pavel Dorofeyev went on to score four goals that night, while Dmitry Sheshin registered three assists. Magnitogorsk also scored two shorthanded goals on their way to a whopping 7-1 win on home ice.
However, the second game of the back-to-back series, which took place on the following day, not only wasn’t identical but was rather a complete opposite of the first bout. Sarmaty got the revenge and did they ever! Orenburg scored five unanswered goals on one of the top teams of the Eastern Conference. Danil Zalalutdinov, Dmitry Salvasser and Nikita Lyubishkin got two points each, while goaltender Alexander Sharygin stopped all 29 shots he had to face in that one for a shutout.
Another interesting game took place in Chelyabinsk. Belye Medvedi had the lead three times but Tyumensky Legion always seemed to find a way to tie it up. However, home team still had the last word in that one – Alexander Shurygin converted on a powerplay with just over six minutes remaining to play in regulation and won it for Chelyabinsk, cementing their position on the playoff zone.
