Kazan – on April 14th, 2018 the Kontinental Hockey League and the Republic of Tatarstan signed a deal to host the 2019 All-Star Week. Republic of Tatarstan president Rustam Minnikhanov and KHL president Dmitry Chernyshenko attended the ceremony.

Tatarstan locked the rights to hold the 2019 All-Star Week festivities after a careful study of four bids. Apart from Kazan, Omsk, Magnitogorsk and Helsinki applied to host the event.

Republic of Tatarstan was chosen due to a better fulfillment of the necessary criteria: support on high government level, developed infrastructure, the proximity of venues for all client groups and profound experience at hosting events of various calibers.

In determining the host city for All-Star Week, KHL gathers bids for all candidates and further signs the deal with the winner to host the signature KHL event. The document signed by both parties underlines the importance of the event for the Republic of Tatarstan and that the main show events of the three leagues will be held at the highest level of organization. The agreement contains causes and responsibilities divided by the two parties.

Tatarstan has become the third region to host All-Star Week. The republic offered to host the events in three cities where hockey is loved and popular – Kazan, Nizhnekamsk and Almetyevsk. All-Star Week will kick off in Nizhnekamsk where JHL Challenge Cup and Women’s All-Star Game will be held on January 12th and 13th. Kazan will host KHL All-Star Weekend as Skills Competition and KHL All-Star game will take place at Tatneft-Arena on January 19th and 20th. On top of that various fan events will be held on the same days in Almetyevsk.

“We are grateful to the Republic of Tatarstan and personally to president Rustam Nurgaliyevich Minnikhanov for all efforts put through to win the competition,” said KHL president Dmitry Chernyshenko. “I emphasize that this All-Star Week won’t be limited to just one cities but hosted around the republic instead. Tatarstan has a developed infrastructure, while hockey is loved and popular around here. All-Star Week events will be hosted in three cities – Kazan, Nizhnekamsk and Almetyevsk.

“Among the four candidates Kazan was the undisputed winner, leaving others far behind. Main criteria that was used to determine the winner were government support, infrastructure, fans’ desire and famous local junior hockey school. Tatarstan features the entire hockey vertical – KHL, VHL, JHL and developed kids’ hockey.

“Hopefully, this great event, which we organize together, will be remembered for a long time, and Tatarstan will see new records that won’t be easy to beat. The bar is always raised high around here.”

“I want to thank our colleagues for hosting this event of not just federal but world caliber in our republic,” said Republic of Tatarstan president Rustam Minnikhanov. “Hockey has always been and remains Tatarstan’s main sport. We have a lot of them but hockey has a special place. This event will increase hockey’s authority and interest in it. We have many issues yet to be regulated but we eagerly await this great event. We will do everything in our power to make it difficult for our colleagues to uphold the level. Thank you very much. We won’t betrayal your trust.”

“We discussed in detail several times on the option to host the All-Star Week in Tatarstan with KHL management. In the end it was the best way to proceed and the government of our republic along with KHL management mutually decided to host this grand hockey event in January 2019 in three cities of our republic – Kazan, Nizhnekamsk and Almetyevsk,” said Republic of Tatarstan minister of youth affaires and sports Vladimir Leonov. “They all have professional clubs that play in various Russian leagues – Ak Bars, Neftekhimik and Neftyanik.

“Without a doubt it’s a great honor and responsibility for Tatarstan to host such event as KHL All-Star Week. Apart from the All-Star Game and Skill Competition, several other sports and entertainment events will be organized, which we currently develop and discuss. There will plenty of great surprises for hockey fans.”
