Nine regular season games took place in Junior Hockey League on February 16th. It all began in Russia’s Far East where Amurskie Tigry Khabarovsk and Taifun Primorie Region played hosts to Moscow teams.

Amurskie Tigry bounced back from losing to Krasnaya Armiya in the opening game of the back-to-back series as they beat them in overtime, despite having a great chance to finish them off in regulation. However, the red-and-blue tied the game up at 5’s with just four seconds remaining to play on the clock. Khabarovsk were in the lead almost throughout the game but they followed their traditional of being unable to protect their advantage on the scoreboard in the 3rd stanza. Nevertheless, home team still beat the reigning Kharlamov Cup champions in the extra period of play as Semyon Bukarev scored the game-winning goal.

JHC Dynamo Moscow had a great opportunity to edge Chayka Nizhny Novgorod from the 8th spot in the Western Conference but they fell to Taifun Primorie Region 5-4 on the road. Tigran Manukyan and Alexei Yepifanov scored twice for Ussuriysk team. Down 5-3, the blue-and-white got a goal back but they failed to get another one in the remaining time to force overtime, despite having pulled Dimity Rayko for the extra-attacker late in regulation.

Reaktor Nizhnekamsk beat Irbis Kazan and thus got their revenge for losing in the first game of the back-to-back series. Nizhnekamsk established a 2-goal lead in the opening period of play and didn’t let go of it till the final buzzer, although Irbis did get back to within one. Timur Khafizov scored twice, while Arsen Khisamutdinov picked up as many assists.

Ladiya Toglaitti beat Sputnik Almetyevsk on home ice but made their fans sit on the edge of their sits in the process as well. Home team was up by four goals early in the 2nd period of play but then the visitors scored three in a row to get back to within one. However, Togliatti still went on to get three points as they won 5-4.

SКА-1946 St. Petersburg beat Almaz Cherepovets on the road for the second consecutive time and this time they managed to do it in regulation. Daniil Shabarov and Timur Sulteyev scored in the 1st period of play. Cherepovets got a tally back in the 2nd period but that was everything they could get past Nikita Lysenkov in this one, while the visitors scored twice more. In the end SKA-1946 won 4-1.

Another St. Petersburg team, SKA-Serebryanye Lvy, got their revenge for losing to Atlanty Moscow Region in the opening game of the back-to-back series, and with this win they are now just six points away from the playoff zone. ‘The Predators’ scored three unanswered goals on Mytischi team, while goaltender Dmitry Nikolayev stopped all 24 shot he had to face to earn a shutout.

Loko Yaroslavl beat JHC Dinamo St. Petersburg on home ice but this time it was a much more difficult task for the top team of the Western Conference as the game went to overtime. Alexander Polunin was the first star of the game as the got a marker in the 2nd period and then added another one to his name just 37 seconds into the extra period of play. Anton Nazarevich scored twice for Dinamo but Loko still won 4-3 in overtime.

JHC Spartak Moscow enjoyed a blowout 9-2 win over HC Riga on the road. Alexander Avksentyev and Andrei Revatsky got two goals each for the red-and-white, while Yegor Kuzmenko got a marker and notched three assists for a total of four points. With this success in Latvia, Spartak are now just one win away from the 2nd spot in the Western Conference.

In the last game of the day Chayka Nizhny Novgorod beat Kunlun Red Star Junior in a real thriller. Nizhny Novgorod let their opponents erase a 2-goal deficit first and then found themselves trailing by as many. They had to come back from behind and brought the game back to even with a tally in the last second of the 3rd period of play. Chayka then went on to win it in overtime. Home team got a hat-trick performance from Christopher Seto, while Danila Platonov scored two for Chayka, including the overtime-winner. Akim Kolomarov also found the back of the net twice in this one.
