Seven regular season games took place in Junior Hockey League on February 14th. Although, it was St. Valentine’s Day, there was no ceasefire in battle for the playoffs and that’s why the teams were going at it in full swing. First matchup of the day was in Novokuznetsk and it was a ‘Bear Rivalry’.

 

Chelyabinsk won the game as they scored two goals in the final 30 seconds of play in the opening period. Novokuznetsk got a goal back as Danil Kolodin roofed it off a solo dash at 32-12. Platon Popov set the final with the final buzzer – his empty-net goal was counted. With this defeat Kuznetskie Medvedi lose their last hope of making the playoffs this year.

Sibirskie Snaipery beat Omskie Yastreby in a hard-fought game and thus secured a playoff berth for the spring. Key events of the game took place in the 3rd period of play when ‘the Hawks’ were up 1-0. The visitors had a 2-goal lead twice but Novosibirsk managed to overcome the deficit both times. At 57-48 Mikhail Konkov scored the game-winning goal and ‘the Snipers’ guaranteed themselves a playoff spot for the 5th consecutive time. As for Omskie Yastreby, they will miss the post-season for the 2nd year in a row.

Avto Yekaterinburg beat Snezhnye Barsy Astana on home ice and solidified their position at 5th place in the Eastern Conference. Home team looked great in the first half of the 2nd period as they got three markers. Late in the frame Kirill Baldin got a goal back for Kazakhstan team with a great individual effort, but Vitaly Solovyov’s men still had the last word in this one – Vyacheslav Sharipov set the final score with a powerplay goal at 51-49. Avto Yekaterinburg enjoy a 4-1 win on home ice.

Pavel Sinyavsky got another one on a man-advantage midway through the 3rd frame, while Daniil Tarasov stopped all 15 shots he faced for a shutout.

Mamonty Yugry played hosts to Stalnye Lisy Magnitogorsk in the clash of top teams of the Eastern Conference. Surprisingly, ‘the Mammoths’ blew past the opposition as their offense was really in the zone that day – Khanty-Mansiysk got their goal number to double digits. As many as three Mamonty Yugry players scored twice – Denis Yerkin, Alexander Belyayev and Ilya Drozdetskikh. The latter finished the game with four points just as Alexander Yaremchuk did, who scored a goal and notched three assists. Mamonty Yugry enjoy a blowout 10-3 win on home ice.

Sarmaty Orenborg got a more modest but still a blowout win as they beat Tyumensky Legion 7-1. Home team managed to answer only Orenburg’s initial marker of the night – Danil Bogush put Sarmaty in the lead at 8-40 and ‘the Legion’ tied it up on a powerplay a few minutes later. After that Sarmaty were the only team filling the net. Bogush and Pavel Sakharov finished the game with two goals each, while Maxim Kunishnikov, Oskar Yulbarisov, Nikita Lyubishkin and Ivan Kurov all got two points in this one. Sarmaty haven’t lost all hope of making the playoffs this year, but they are still far away from the 8th spot in the Eastern Conference.
