SKA-SEREBRYANYE LVY SECURE A PLAYOFF SPOT FOR KRASNAYA ARMIYA, ALMAZ REACH 100 POINTS. FEBRUARY 4TH ROUND-UP

Ten regular season games took place in Junior Hockey League on February 4th. It all began in Omsk where Irbis Kazan put an end to Omskie Yastreby’s 5-game winning streak.


Kazan opened up the scoring at 9-05 – Alexander Zaitsev got one past Konstantin Lobachyov. It remained a 1-goal game up till the final minute of regulation when Artyom Valeyev got another one in to secure the win for Irbis. Goaltender Adel Minegaliev stopped all 19 shots he faced for a shutout. With this loss Omskie Yastreby are still 16 points away from coveted 8th spot in the Eastern Conference. Kazan earned three points on the road and moved up to 6th place.

Belye Medvedi Chelyabinsk enjoyed a win over Ladiya Togliatti in a hard-fought game. Volga river team won the opening period of play 2-1 but ‘Polar Bears’ were the only team scoring after that. Yegor Stepanov and Sergei Shusharin got two points each and Chelyabinsk went on to win it 5-2. With this success on home ice Belye Medvedi are now tied for 4th place in the Eastern Conference with Avto Yekaterinburg.

JHC Spartak Moscow beat Amurskie Tigry Khabarovsk on home ice. The red-and-white had a 2-0 lead midway through the 3rd period as Mark Rozanov and Yegor Kravchenko found the back of the net. However, late in the game Spartak made their fans sit on the edge of their seats. Amurskie Tigry brought the game back to within one twice and then went for one final push when the score was 3-2. Home team stood their ground and Rozanov scored his 2nd goal of the game on an empty net with a second remaining to play in regulation. JHC Spartak Moscow win 4-2.

JHC Dinamo St. Petersburg enjoyed a blowout win over HC Riga as they scored as many as four unanswered goals in the 2nd period of play. Nikita Dynyak got two tallies, while Maxim Mikhailov finished the game with three points. Goaltender Kirill Ustimenko stopped all 19 shot he faced for a shutout.

JHC Dynamo Moscow beat HC Kapitan Stupino on home ice. Second game of the back-to-back series proved to be significantly more high-scoring. The blue-and-white looked solid in the first half of the game as they scored five unanswered goals. The visitors got a few tallies of their own in the 2nd stanza as Yegor Postnov and Amir Garayev found the back of the net. Ivan Muranov and Alexander Petunin scored two each for Dynamo and home side enjoyed a 6-3 win in the end.

Krasnaya Armiya Moscow edged Russkie Vityazi and just like the day before they had to do in overtime. Regulation time ended with a 1-1 tie. In the opening period of play Nikita Popugayev scored one for the reigning Kharlamov Cup champions and shortly after that Leon Zambakhidze tied it up. Maxim Sorkin scored the game-winning goal in the extra period of play. The 2-point win did not guarantee Rinat Khasanov’s men a playoff spot so they had to wait for the game between Kunlun Red Star Junior and SKA-Serebryanye Lvy St. Petersburg game to end.

Chayka Nizhny Novgorod lost to Almaz Cherepovets for the second consecutive time. Nizhny Novgorod collapsed in the 3rd stanza as they allowed Cherepovets to score as many as three unanswered goals. Yegor Zaplatnikov, Ilya Orlov and Makar Khabarov got the markers. With this loss Chayka let Krylia Sovetov increase the gap between the two to five points.

Loko Yaroslavl beat Atlanty Moscow Region in the second game of the back-to-back series as well. Yaroslavl allowed a goal just eight seconds into the opening period but Mikhail Belyayev and Nikita Gromov scored a goal each to put the visitors in the lead before the intermission. In the 2nd stanza the teams traded goals – Pavel Kudryavtsev got one for Loko, while Sergei Dudkin scored for Atlanty – the latter proved to be the last tally of the game and top team of the Western Conference enjoyed a 3-2 win on the road.

Timur Ibragimov scored twice for ‘the Predators’, while Mark Kaleinikovas got two for the Chinese side. SKA-Sererbryanye Lvy win 5-2 on the road.
