SARMATY PUT ON A SHOW IN NOVOSIBIRSK, MAMONTY YUGRY MAKE THE PLAYOFFS FOR THE 1st TIME IN THREE YEARS

Eight regular season games took place in Junior Hockey League on January 31st. It all began in Togliatti where Ladiya played hosts to Snezhnye Barsy Astana.

 

Both teams battle for the playoffs this year and, moreover, they are neighbors in the standings. That’s why just like the day before they engaged in a hard-fought game. Togliatti had the lead twice as Konstantin Kukharev and Roman Polyanichev found the back of the net but Snezhnye Barsy managed to bring the game back to even both times and force overtime, where Samat Daniyar scored the game-winning goal. Snezhnye Barsy enjoy a difficult 3-2 win on the road.

Sibirskie Snaipery and Sarmaty Orenburg treated the fans to one of the most exciting games of the year. Orenburg were down 3-0 halfway through the 2nd period but that didn’t bring them down. The visitors gave chase and caught up with ‘the Snipers’ on the scoreboard to make it a 5-5 hockey game. Key moment of the game came at 50-33 when Yegor Bardakov gave Sarmaty their first lead of the night and then Vladimir Ipatov secured the win with an empty-netter in the last second of regulation. Maxim Kunishnikov scored twice for Orenburg and they won it 7-5 on the road.

Avto Yekaterinburg faced Tyumensky Legion on home ice. With a win in regulation Avto could, albeit temporarily, rise to 4th place edging Belye Medvedi Chelyabinsk. The were no goals scored in the opening period of play but in each of the following two frames Vitaly Solovyov’s men scored twice. Artyom Belotsky got a goal and two assists for three points and Yekaterinburg won 4-1.

The game in Ufa ended with the same final score. Mamonty Yugry beat Tolpar and secured a playoff spot for the first time in three seasons. Khanty-Mansiysk established an insurmountable lead already in the opening period as they scored as many as four unanswered goals past Daniil Tarasov. Home team managed to get just a consolation goal by Vladislav Vlasov in the 3rd frame and ‘the Mammoths’ won 4-1 on the road.

Irbis Kazan also enjoyed a 4-1 win on home ice as they beat Altay Ust-Kamenogorsk. Kazan got two points from Ruslav Akhmetvaliev and Artyom Valeyev. With this win Irbis surpass Reaktor Nizhnekamsk in the standings as they are now 6th in the Eastern Conference.

Russkie Vityazi continue to battle for a playoff spot and they beat JHC Spartak Moscow in a hard-fought game. Key events of the matchup took place in the opening period of play, which Chekhov won 3-2. Home team allowed two goals but brought it all back to even as Danila Moiseyev scored twice and then grabbed the lead – Dmitry Varlamov found the back of the net. In the 3rd stanza Russkie Vityazi got two more tallies and as a result went on to a very important 5-2 win on home ice.

Reaktor Nizhnekamsk edged Belye Medvedi Chelyabinsk in the shootout on home ice. The visitors established a firm lead in the opening period as Yuri Shadrin scored twice. However, Nizhnekamsk also had a few heroes in their line-up. Gleb Semyonov got a goal back at 32-01 and then Bulat Shafigullin took over the reins. First he tied the game up and forced overtime and then he scored the shootout-winner. With this 3-2 win Reaktor earn two points and they are now seven points behind Belye Medvedi in Eastern Conference standings.
