About the League
First star of the October 5th gameday is Irbis Kazan forward Nikita Soshnin.
Kazan and Stalnye Lisy Magnitogorsk treated the fans to a very exciting game – very fittingly for the top two teams in the Eastern Conference. Home team had the lead in the dying seconds of regulation but they gave it up. Nevertheless, Irbis still walked away with two points as they won the game in the shootout. One of the biggest contributors to that success was forward Nikita Sohnin, who scored Irbis’ third goal of the night and added two assists to that for a total of three points. On top of that he scored the shootout-winner. Irbis won the game 5-4 in the shootout on home ice.
The shootout itself should be discussed more thoroughly in this one, too. The shootout went on for ten rounds and Soshnin’s marker came off the fifth successful attempt. Amir Miftakhov stopped the next Stalnye Lisy shooter and Kazan got the win. Soshnin currently has three goals and nine assists for a total of 12 points in 13 regular season games. Soshnin is tied with Alexander Redkov for second on Irbis in points. Artyom Valeyev leads Irbis with eight goals and seven assists for a total of 15 points.
This is the rookie season for 19-year-old Soshnin in the MHL. Before that he played for two years on Irbis in MHL-B. He spent last two years in Canada, playing for the Saskatoon Blades in the Western Hockey League.
Irbis Kazan and Stalnye Lisy Magnitogorsk will meet again for the second game of the back-to-back series today, October 6th. You can watch the game live on Molodyozhnaya Hokkeynaya Liga (MHL) official website. The puck drops at 5pm Moscow time.
