The start of the JHL season in review: sensational Kapitan, leadership of SKA-1946 and Omskie Yastreby

MHL.KHL.RU recaps on the start of the OLIMPBET Junior Hockey League regular season. 

The defending champion is the Western Conference leader 

OLIMPBET Junior Hockey League season commenced September 3 with a game between current finalists - SKA-1946 and Krasnaya Armiya. The season opener was won by the Moscow team (3:2 S/O). The army team from St. Petersburg returned the favor in the second game (7:6), won both games against Dynamo Moscow and led the Gold Division. Forward Grigory Kuzmin is the top scorer of SKA-1946 with five (3+2) points. Defenseman Kirill Kirsanov has the same stats (2+3).

Kapitan - the main sensation of September

In the West, Kapitan had a great start with three regulation wins over Gold Division teams - Krylya Sovetov, Almaz and the three-time Kharlamov Cup winner Loko. Goalie Artemy Pleshkov is one of the main success makers. With 1.33 goals against average, one shutout and 96.5 save percentage, he was named the goalie of the week.

Vityazi’s great start

Russkie Vityazi, the team of the Gold Division of the Western Conference, knows no defeat. Like Vityaz in the KHL, Alexei Podalinsky’s team had a strong start notching three wins over the Far Eastern teams. Maxim Ilyichyov was the first among the players born in 2006 to score goals in the JHL, Ivan Detkov scored one of the most beautiful goals of the first week, and Stanislav Yarovoi is the top scorer with 8 (3+5) points.

Chezganov's sad hat-trick 

JHC Spartak forward Yegor Chezganov joined the team after leaving Admiral system. The ex-forward of Almaz scored three goals in the game against Amurskie Tigry and netted the brace in the game against Taifun. The game against the Primorsky region team was won 5:1, but the hat-trick was not enough for the Khabarovsk team, they won 5:3. However, Chezganov's work was not in vain, the forward was called up to Khimik, coached by the former head coach of Tolpar, Igor Grishin.

In total, at the start of the season, JHL players scored three hat-tricks. Vladimir Korobintsev’s three goals prevented Mamonty Ugry from winning the game against Avto (5:6), and Yegor Kupriyanov’s goals helped Chaika defeat Molot (8:2).

Sibirskie Snaipery started with a three-game winning streak

In the Silver Division of the Eastern Conference, Sibirskie Snaipery received six points out of six possible. The line comprised of the Klimovich brothers and Roman Kochenevsky is a noteworthy one. These three scored 18 points in total (six points each). Goalie Vladimir Tabatchikov made 71 saves in two games including a really nice one in the second game against Krasnoyarskie Rysi (6:2). 

Snaipery’s closest pursuer in the Division is Ladya, which won both games at the start of the OLIMPBET JHL. 

57 saves by Vyazovoi stopped Omskie Yastreby 

In the East, Omskie Yastreby are the leaders of the Gold Division. The best rookie of the 2021/2022 season, Vyacheslav Malov, scored points in every game, he has 4+2. Yastreby started with a three-game winning streak. First, they won both games against Stalnye Lisy, their opponent in the quarter-finals of the 2021/2022 playoffs. Then they got a confident win over Tolpar in the first game, but the Ufa team returned the favor in the second one. Tolpar goalie Semyon Vyazovoi made 57 saves in the game against Omskie Yastreby on September 10, it is the best result of the week. The Ufa team won 5:1 and handed the Omsk team their first loss of the season. 

Irbis has a bad start again 

In the Gold Division, Irbis is having a bad start of the season for the second consecutive year. The Kazan team lost to Ladya and Sarmaty - the teams of the Silver Division. In the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 seasons, Irbis reached the semi-finals and won bronze medals. In 2021, the team coached by Artyom Anisimov had an eight-game losing streak in September, but managed to improve the situation and finish the regular season ranked fifth. In the playoffs, the Kazan team won the series against Tolpar and Chaika but got eliminated in Game 5 of the semi-finals against SKA-1946.

  

Kirsanov and Duda are the highest-scoring defensemen 

OLIMPBET Junior Hockey League regular season started in St. Petersburg with two games of the finalists of the 2021/2022 season - SKA-1946 and Krasnaya Armiya. In the first game, the Moscow team tied it late in the third period and got a shootout win. In the second game the teams scored 13 goals in total and SKA-1946 was one goal ahead (7:6). The game-winning goals was scored by defenseman Kirill Kirsanov. At the end of the week, he and Krasnaya Armiya defenseman Artyom Duda had 5 (2+3) points and +1 each. Kirsanov became the player of the week, thanks to the game-winning goal and the higher shooting percentage (20,0 vs. Duda’s 11,8). Artyom demonstrated his signature clear run on goal in the second game.

The start of the season by the numbers 

899 players took part in games, 200 of them are under 16.

274 hockey players made their JHL debut.

The highest scoring JHL team: Russkie Vityazi (17 goals).
