About the League
Four regular season games took place in Junior Hockey League on November 15th. We take a look at key Sunday action in this daily review on JHL official website.
Irbis Kazan faced Omskie Yastreby on home ice and had a chance to climb on top of the Eastern Conference with a win. The ‘Hawks’ failed to convert on their initial power play opportunity of the game but they did score at even strength – Sergei Alkhimov scored his third goal of the season. Kazan found an answer in the second period. Ruslan Galimzyanov broke loose shorthanded and beat Andrei Mishurov.
The game was even in the third stanza and nothing changed on the scoreboard. It went to overtime and unlike in Togliatti the teams didn’t let it slip to the shootout. Danila Dudin scored the winner for Omskie Yastreby three minutes in but Kazan still gained a point, which was enough to surpass Avto Yekaterinburg in Eastern Conference standings.
SKA-1946 faced off against their St. Petersburg rivals SKA-Varyagi at SC Hockeytown. The 46’s were considered the favorites of the bout but the opposition gave them a run for their money and even walked away with a win. There was no scoring in the opening period of play as both netminders were on top of their game, which is especially true for SKA-Varyagi goaltender Kirill Gerasimyuk. Shortly before the second intermission Varyagi capitalized on Artur Demidov’s penalty – Vladimir Andreyev was credited with the marker.
Second half of the third period was key in the game. Nikita Smirnov brought it back to square one but with just to minutes remaining to play in regulation Stepan Anisomov took a shot and the puck bounced over Pavel Romashkin’s pad into the back of the net. Ilya Kudryashov set the final score as he scored on the empty net. SKA-Varyagi beat their rivals 3-1.
