Biggest game of the day was held in St. Petersburg. SKA-1946 played hosts to Loko Yaroslavl at SC Hockeytown. Arch-rivals got down to business without feeling each other out first but both netminders played well. Yegor Gorshkov faced far more shots but Nikita Melnichuk also had to make several good saves to bail out his teammates. ‘Railway men’ got the momentum on their side in the second period of play but the 46’s managed to get on the board first as they found the back of the net 17 minutes into the frame – Nikita Smirnov skillfully redirected a shot off the right wing into past Gorshkov to convert on Matvei Bannikov’s penalty.

Early in the third stanza Yaroslavl got a marker from their dynamic duo of Yegor Manin and Maxim Denezhkin. Manin, who led Loko in scoring last season, tied the game up. Midway through the period St. Petersburg got their second lead of the game as Artyom Zhuk broke away and slipped it past Gorshkov. The goal proved to be the winning tally. Loko went for one final push late in regulation but to no avail. SKA-1946 take it 2-1 on home ice.

Another exciting game between Western Conference teams was played in Krasnogorsk, Moscow Region as JHC Dynamo Moscow faced Almaz Cherepovets. Just as in the abovementioned St. Petersburg matchup, first period of play featured no goals in this one, as home side failed to convert their momentum into goals against Yegor Tulepov. As for Cherepovets, they made Dmitry Menshatov make just three stops over the stretch. Dynamo scored twice in the second period of play – Nikita Lukhovskoy and Oleg Zaitsev got a tally each. The visitors responded with a goal by Nikita Guslistov.

When Dynamo scored their third goal, Almaz answered with a marker by Alexei Lapin and that was all they could muster. In the last minute of regulation the visitors swapped their netminder for the extra attacker but it backfired on them as Makhrin scored an empty-netter to seal the deal. With this 4-2 success on home ice Dynamo extend their winning streak to ten games.
