Five regular season games took place in Molodyozhnaya Hokkeynaya Liga (MHL) on October 19th. After suffering a blowout loss the day before Kuznetskie Medvedi Novokuznetsk were looking to bounce back in the second game of the back-to-back series against Sarmaty Orenburg in front of hometown fans.

Orenburg played solid hockey in the opening period of play and as a result they scored goals. First Dmitry Pronin opened up the scoring off a quick counter-attack that began with a face-off in Sarmaty’s defensive end. 90 seconds later Alexei Fakirov, who scored three goals in his previous game, picked up the puck on Evgeny Borisov’s assist, took a pause and sent the puck in on the short-side with a powerplay shot. This one came on a powerplay and it gave Sarmaty a 2-0 lead.

Late in the second period the visiting team finally put one past Artyom Sergeyev. The goaltender stopped the original shot but Vladislav Zhidkhikh managed to bury it on the rebound – 2-1. At 46-19 home team restored the 2-goal margin – Roman Bagin finished Nikita Strizhov’s dish from in tight. Kuznetskie Medvedi tried everything they could to tie the game up but Sarmaty played smart defensively. With this 3-1 win Sarmaty didn’t let Novokuznetsk catch up with them in the standings.

Snezhnye Barsy Astana beat Ladiya Togliatti on home ice. Kazakhstan team built a solid lead as early as in the first period of play. First Dmitry Gurkov capitalized on the dish by Artyom Ananichev to open up the scoring. At 8-36 Ananichev found the back of the net himself. In the second frame Togliatti managed to score two goals past Artyom Leontyev, but they also allowed two tallies – Gurkov netted his second goal of the game, while Alexander Melikhov added on one his own to make it 4-2 Snezhnye Barsy. With this win Astana end their 5-game losing streak.

In the first period of play Kazan opened up the scoring – Eduard Nasybullin found the back of the net on a powerplay. In the second frame Alexander Redkov, Artyom Valeyev and Artyom Rasulov got the markers. That was more than enough to get three points in this one. Tolpar Ufa beat Mamonty Yugry Khanty-Mansiysk 7-3 on the road. Despite the final score, the teams were really close through the first two periods of play – they were tied 2-2 after 40. In the third frame Tolpar forwards exploded with five goals. Gleb Kuzmin and Ruslan Gaisin got two tallies each. With four second remaining on the clock in regulation home team scored their third goal of the night but it was of little consolation. With this win Tolpar slightly improve their situation in the standings. They have three wins in their past four games.

Avto Yekaterinburg established a firm lead in the first 40 minutes of play of their game against Tyumensky Legion Tyumen. Ural team scored four unanswered goals in the first couple of periods. However, Yekaterinburg had to stay alert since ‘the Legion’ is known to be the kind of team that likes to score in bundles and claw their way back when they down by a lot.
