Another busy gameday will take place in Molodyozhnya Hokkeynaya Liga (MHL) on October 17th – it’s going to feature as many as 11 regular season games. One of them is going to be between Almaz Cherepovets and Krasnaya Armiya Moscow, who are neighboring in the Western Conference standings.

The red-and-blue are riding a 7-game winning streak coming into this match-up. Boris Mironov’s men beat no other but Almaz in their last game – ‘the army men’ enjoyed a shootout win. With 33 points in 15 games CSKA Moscow’s major junior team sits third in the West. Krasnaya Armiya is just one win away from SKA-1946 St. Petersburg, who currently top the conference. Almaz has two points less but with a win tonight they will get closer to SKA-Serebryanye Lvy St. Petersburg, who are currently second in the West.

The first game between the two teams in MHL history took place in October 2009. The teams faced each other in Cherepovets and split the back-to-back series with overtime wins – 4-3 and 3-2. Overall the teams played against each other 31 times in MHL regular season and Kharlamov Cup Playoffs. Almaz won 15 games in regulation and one game in overtime. Krasnaya Armiya won two games in regulation, two games in overtime and four more in the shootout. Cherepovets have a better goal differential – 103-to-98.

The first game of the current back-to-back series took place this past Sunday and Krasnaya Armiya got the win. Neither regulation, nor overtime solved nothing and the game went to the shootout. Nikita Loschenko opened up the scoring in the first period of play and late in the third frame Krasnaya Armiya forward Ivan Silayev tied the game up with a shorthanded marker. Semyon Krasheninnikov scored the shootout-winner to give the red-and-blue the extra point.
