Eight regular season games took place in Molodyozhnaya Hokkeynaya Liga (MHL) on October 5th. Irbis Kazan beat Stalnye Lisy Magnitogorsk in a thriller on home ice as they prevailed in the shootout.

The fans were treated to fast-paced hockey in the opening period of play. There were very a few stoppages of play until 14-18 when Kirill Zotov got a 5-minute major and a game misconduct for checking to the head in a very unnecessary situation. Kazan converted on the ensuing powerplay when there was less than a minute left on the clock in the first period – Dmitry Samsonov buried one past Sergei Bronnikov. At 26-16 Timofey Menschikov tied the game up as he scored his sixth goal this regular season.
The visiting team managed to come back from behind again after Samsonov scored his second of the night – Stalnye Lisy put together a neat passing play and Evgeny Konovalchuk finished it off. He received the puck from the corner and all he had to do was shoot it past Amir Miftakhov to make it a 2-2 hockey game. At 43-27 Stalnye Lisy got their first lead of the night – Menschikov scored his second of the night and that one came shorthanded. However, Vitaly Solovyov’s men not only tied it up in a hurry but they also got their lead back – Nikita Soshnin and Artyom Valeyev gave Irbis their third lead of the game. Nevertheless, Stalnye Lisy showed fight spirit and brought it all back to square one – this time with just four seconds left to play in regulation! Mark Yanchevsky sent this one to overtime.

Extra frame solved nothing and the game went to a shootout. Kazan still waked away with a win but it took them ten shootout rounds to clinch it. Nikita Soshnin scored the shootout-winner.
